3 Ways To Increase Business Knowledge

Take a class

There are so many classes available now that there is absolutely no excuse for not finding something that you can do. You can choose to study face-to-face or online. You can do a selection of short classes, or take on a higher degree. It’s all up to you.  If money is an issue it’s easy to find free courses. You can study to fill knowledge gaps, get qualifications in your field, to learn new skills or just for the fun of it.  If you’re worried about enrolling in a dodgy college, check out your local TAFE or the Good Universities Guide.  If you’re looking for a class to take, check out my post 30+ Resources To Increase Your Business Knowledge.

Join a group

You can join an online group or an offline group, or even better, both! Groups help you to meet others in your industry to learn from their knowledge and to share yours. Joining a group will allow you to meet and get to know industry leaders and helps you to find people to partner with.   A group will give you lots of relevant networking opportunities and connections with people who are facing the same challenges you face.  Find online groups on sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, and offline groups on sites like MeetUp and Eventbrite.

Do some reading

There is almost an unlimited amount of information available now. Blogs, newsletters, internet forums, books and magazines covering any topic you’re interested in are very easy to find. Subscribe to email newsletters with a separate email address, or filter newsletters to a separate folder so you’re not distracted by them, but you can read them at your leisure. And be quick to unsubscribe from any that no longer seem relevant to you.  Use a newsreader such as Feedly to subscribe to blogs you’re interested in without cluttering up your mailbox.  You can then log in whenever you have time and see the latest posts. I often log in while I’m waiting for something, then use Instapaper to save any that I’d like to read later.

The truth is that finding ways to increase your business knowledge is no longer a difficult task. The only thing to beware of is overdoing it and spending too much time reading, networking on forums, having coffee catch-ups and doing a bit of research on something you’ve just learnt about.
