Tuesday 20th October was the anniversary of my 7th year in business, over the last 7 years of helping businesses with their administration, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve learned a lot about running a business, I’ve learned a lot about customer service, I’ve learned a LOT about marketing and I’ve learned a lot about trusting my instinct and being brave. To celebrate, here are the top 7 things I’ve learned in the last 7 years, and 7 stats from 7 years.
7 things I’ve learned
- It’s OK to pass on working with a client. You’re better off not working with someone rather than working with someone you don’t click with. Never be afraid to say “I don’t think I’m the best person to help you with that.”
- It’s OK to not provide services you don’t enjoy providing. Don’t let anyone make you feel you need to do something just because they want it.
- Networking is invaluable. I have only 2 regular clients that have come from somewhere other than networking.
- Trust your instinct. Don’t be so worried about what people say you should do.
- Don’t wait for perfection. It’s often better to act and perfect things later rather than wait until you get it perfect.
- Integrity is important. Even if nobody else notices, it’ll be easier to back yourself when YOU know you’re doing the right thing. Plus, I suspect that people do notice even if you don’t realise it.
- People don’t tend to comment – on social media or on what you do. If you ever feel like nobody notices or that you’re not appreciated, trust me, they do. It’s just that most people don’t mention it for one reason or another. That said, you need to make it easy for your clients to give feedback – particularly in the early days of a working relationship.
