Things A Virtual Assistant Will Need To Help With Your Blog

Would like a Virtual Assistant to help with your blog but not know how to go about making it happen? Most of this will be something you negotiate with your Virtual Assistant. Or, if you don’t have a Virtual Assistant you’ll try to find someone who fits your needs.  That said, here are some of the things a Virtual Assistant will need to help with your blog:

Content

This of course is the big one, and probably the thing you’re most likely to want help with. How much content, and what format you have will be up to you and your Virtual Assistant. Options are:

None

This is a service I don’t off. However, you may find a Virtual Assistant who is a skilled copywriter who is prepared to write you a post on a certain topic. You may also be able to find someone on Fiverr who can write a post for you. Again, I’m not sure that I think it’s ethical, so I don’t provide the service, but there’s no reason for you to not look for a Virtual Assistant who does offer the service.

Dot points

This can be a bit different, but if you can provide the content in fairly detailed dot points, your Virtual Assistant can turn them into sentances and paragraphs so you end up with a decent blog post.  This is a good way to go if you’re not a fan of writing, or if your spelling and grammar are not great.

Audio file

If you’re not a fan of writing, consider recording your blog post and sending the recording to your Virtual Assistant for transcription. There’s a few benefits to doing this, firstly you don’t have to sit and write or worry about spelling & grammar. Secondly, you can do it while you’re doing something else, like driving or when you’re doing housework or playing golf.

Written post

The most common way I receive posts is to get a written post. Usually, my clients type them up in Word with the formatting they want in the blog. But you can type them up in an email or a spreadsheet, or anywhere you want. Then they just need to be pasted into your blog, formatted, proofread and posted.

Graphics

Images

You can get your Virtual Assistant to find appropriate images for your posts. All you need to do is let your Virtual Assistant know what you want. For example: Brightly coloured images of professional looking people, preferably women, in their 30’s to 40’s. The more detail you can give about what you want, the more chance there is that your Virtual Assistant will find the right image.

Infographics

You might want your Virtual Assistant to create an infographic for you. They are a great way to display information, and they tend to be quite popular. For this, you’d need to let your Virtual Assistant know what kind of infographic you want, maybe even send them a couple that you like the style of. You’ll also need to send them the data that you’d like included, along with sources if you’re using statistics that you want taken seriously.

Diagrams

It depends a bit on your Virtual Assistant, but they may be able to create diagrams to help illustrate your points. Personally, I totally lack creativity in this way, so I prefer to get a mockup. Generally, that’s just a hand drawn image so I can see what to put where. If your Virtual Assistant is creative, they may be able to come up with something awesome on their own.

SEO

The final way a Virtual Assistant can help with your blog is to do a bit of SEO work on the posts. Particularly if you use a plugin like Yoast or similar on your blog. If you do want the SEO optimised on your blog posts, you’ll need to tell your Virtual Assistant what you’re trying to achieve with each post. Give them a keyword (or phrase), and an excerpt that includes your keyword or key phrase will help them make sure that each post has SEO optmised for the correct keywords.

That might seem like a lot, and as you get used to working together, you may find you don’t need to give your Virtual Assistant as much information, but the more time you take to get it right, the more your Virtual Assistant will be able to help with your blog.
