What If My Virtual Assistant Is Unavailable?

Occasionally, a client is concerned about what happens if I get sick, take holidays or am unavailable for some other reason. While it is an issue that would still occur with a regular staff member, for some clients it seems to be more of a concern for a remote worker. Fortunately, it’s not such a big deal, as even though virtual assistants are independent contractors and work alone, we do have backup.

That backup comes in the form of the many Virtual Assistant networks we’re involved in.

What if my virtual assistant is unavailable? - Sharyn Munro Virtual Assistance

Most virtual assistants are members of at least a couple of networks, both formal and informal.  My formal networks are based online, although there is an annual conference as well. My informal networks are with other virtual assistants who I’ve worked with before or got to know through local groups.

These networks give us a great pool of people who will back us up if needed. It also means, that there are people who can help us with skills that you need, but we don’t have.  For example, I am not set up to provide reception services. However, I know a couple of virtual assistants who do, that I’ve worked with in the past, so I’d be able to recommend someone who could provide those services if needed.

Another great advantage of virtual assistant communities is that we can discuss issues that we’re having.  Whether it’s getting second opinions about a situation we’re having in our business; to talking about industry changes; to sharing our wins and getting a little social support as needed. It helps keep us on top of everything we need to know, and gives a bit of social support.

So, don’t let concerns about your Virtual Assistant being unavailable for a period prevent you from working with them.  We come from a great community that not only provides backup, but increases the skills you have access to.
