Choosing A Virtual Assistant: Personality Vs Experience

When you’re choosing a Virtual Assistant, one thing to consider is what will make you the most comfortable. Particularly when working with someone you don’t have regular in person contact with and may never meet in person.

Choosing a Virtual Assistant: personality vs experience - Sharyn Munro Virtual Assistance

A successful relationship with a Virtual Assistant is based on trust. In most cases, you will be giving them access to your emails; corporate information; account details; even credit card numbers. So it’s vital that you work with someone you can trust.  The difficulty is in deciding what will make you the most comfortable.

What it comes down to is deciding what is most important to you. Working with somebody you click with. Or working with someone who has specific expertise in your field or a specific skillset.

In the long run, that’s best decided by which is the most important to you.  A good Virtual Assistant will be personable and professional to all their clients. In which case the “click” may not be so important. Particularly if you don’t have the time or inclination to train someone.

On the other hand, a good Virtual Assistant will also be able to quickly pick up the idiosyncrasies of your field and/or specific tools you use. So you may prefer to spend time training someone and allow for a learning curve for someone that you have a great rapport with.

You may be someone who trusts professionalism over personality, or you may have difficulty trusting someone you don’t feel a personal connection with.  Whichever way works for you, you are going to have a much more rewarding experience if you find a Virtual Assistant who has the qualities that you find important.
