If you’d like to start creating your own social media graphics, here are some tools and tips to help you create awesome images:

Programs

There are many programs you can use to help get the graphics that you want. Here’s 5

  1. Canva
  2. Crello
  3. Pablo
  4. PicMonkey
  5. PowerPoint – comes as part of Microsoft Office

Pictures

A lot of the programs above will have their own images, but if you need others, check out these sites that all offer free graphics:

  1. Free Images
  2. MorgueFile
  3. Pexels
  4. Pixabay
  5. WikiMedia images

Note: before downloading any image, you should check the license agreement, never assume it’s OK for you to use.

Lastly, you could always take your own photos, design your own images or use one of the many paid image sites such as Shutterstock.

Tips

Here are 5 things to keep in mind when creating social media graphics

  1. Remember your branding (colours, fonts, language used)
  2. Stick to a theme (style of image, graphical vs photograph, serious or light-hearted)
  3. Use the right size images for where you will be sharing the image. Check out the Social Media Image Size Cheat Sheet
  4. Never use images you’ve just grabbed off the net. At best, you’re stealing someone else’s work, at worst you might end up having to pay a LOT of money because of it
  5. Keep it simple. A simple image with a regular font will make for something that looks good and is easy to read. A fussy image with fancy text is likely to look great but be unreadable.

It’s really that easy! If you’re not sure, set aside 15 minutes one day and log into any of the programs above and see how easy it is to create your own social media graphics. If you have any questions, or need a hand, contact me.
