A lot of businesses seem to think a newsletter is a waste of time. However, a newsletter can have benefits for any type of business. A newsletter is a great idea for many reasons, including:
A newsletter helps you connect with your customers
Use your newsletter to put a human face on your business. You can let your personality shine through so that your clients can have a more personal connection. Sharing information about your staff can have the same effect. Anything that lets your customers get to know who you are and what your values are will create a better connection.
Keeps your business in mind for people who may need your product / services later
A lot of the people you meet won’t necessarily want to buy your product or use your services right at that minute. Sending them a regular newsletter is a way of reminding them about your business. Then, when they are ready to buy, you’re top of mind. It also makes it more likely that you will spring to mind when someone is asking for recommendations.
You can share information to become known as the go-to expert in your field
Sharing short articles about your products or services that show your expertise in the field helps portray your knowledge. Again, this makes your business become THE one in the mind of customers. So, when they’re looking for help – you’re the one they think of. The same for recommendations, you’re the business everyone knows.
To notify customers of changes in your business
Not letting customers know about changes in advance is a bad idea. When someone finds out you’ve moved by going to your old premises – you’ve probably lost a customer. And if customers can’t reach you by phone, they’ll probably assume you’re no longer in business. If your business hours or rates have changed, people need to know before they visit or use your services.
It’s a great way to advertise any sales or specials
If you’re having a sale, or you have some stock you want to move quickly – advertising it in your newsletter is a great way to get rid of it. You can offer a “subscriber discount” and use your newsletter to get more contact details. Which will in turn, allow you to send regular newsletters so you develop a relationship and you’re top of mind.
Those are just some of the reasons why you should have a newsletter. But I’m sure that if you started regularly contacting your list, you’d see a corresponding increase in enquiries.
